Lorene Barnett Fisher, who has done a great deal of work on the Barnett family in general, seems to be of the view that one of the earliest Barnetts to come into Spartanburg County was one Joseph Barnett. She believes that he was born in October, 1731, in Goochland County, VA, and died March 1, 1802; he is supposed to have been buried in the Barnett cemetery in Camp Croft, near the City of Spartanburg. The Barnett cemetery is referred to on page 101 of Some Spartanburg County Cemeteries, edited by Joseph R. Gainey, 1983, a copy of which is in the Kennedy Room of the Spartanburg County Library.
