His mother died when he was three weeks old. He was raised by his Grandmother Taxana Revan Turner and an Aunt Jane Turner Odam.
When he wasin his late teen’s he moved to Hendersonville, NC to live and work for his Uncle Will Turner who owned a trucking business.

He retired in 1960 from the State of NC Highway Maintainence Department.

OBITUARY FOR ERVIN BANETT
Mountain Home - Ervin Barnett,75, of Mountain Road died Friday in a Hendersonville Hospital after an exteded illness.

He was a native of Greenville County, SC, and lived most of his life in Henderson County. He was the son of the late Perry and Anna Turner Barnett and was formerly employed by the State Highway Department.

He is survived by the wife, Lillian Whitaker Barnett, two sons, Charles Barnett of Mountain Home and the Rev. Earl Barnett of Ketchikan, Alaska. There brothers, Herman Barnett of Hendersonville, Clarence Barnett of Jaspter, TN, and Leroy Barnett of Greenville, TN; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Levi of tuxedo and Mrs. Clara Boone of Greer, SC; six grandchildren, a step-grandchild, a great grandchild and two step-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 pm Monday in Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel. The Revs. Buddy Mullinax and Herb Putman will officiate. Burialwill be in Shepherd Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm Sunday at Thos. Shepherd and Son Funeral Directors.

Memorial may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church building fund.

OBITUARY FOR LILLIAN WHITAKER BARNETT
Hendersonville - Lillian Barnett, 86, of Mountain Home, died Friday, December 23, 1988 in Pardee Hospital.

She was a native of Henderson Countay and had lived here most of her life. A daughter of the late Oscar “Doc” and Nora “Dolly” Morrow Whitaker, she was the wife of Ervin Barnett who died in 1978. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include tow sons, Charles B. Barnett of Mountain Home and teh Rev. Earl Barnett of Soldotna, Alaska; a sister Ruth Whitaker of Mountain Home; several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be hel 2 pm Tuesday at Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel with the Revs. Buddy Mullinax and Joe Canipe officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Monday at Thos. Shepherd & Sons Funeral Directors. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
