THELMA IRENE AMES was born December 27, 1922 in Rubio, Iowa, to Oscar and Carrie Mourer. She was one of eight children. She grew up on a farm and attended a one-room school through 8th grade. She graduated from Batavia High School and later from California Baptist College. She took post-graduate work at Cal State University Long Beach. Her career was as a classroom teacher. She was married to John H. Ames, her husband of 67 years. They had three children, Patricia, John D., and Bill and one grandchild, Caitlin Ames. Thelma is survived by her children, Pat and John and her granddaughter, Caitlin. Thelma was preceded in death by five sisters, one brother, her husband and their youngest son, Bill. Services will be held Tuesday, May 19th, noon at Riverside National Cemetery with military honors. -
