Sue was a lifelong member of Gowensville Baptist Church, and their home was on the east side of Highway 14 between Gowensville and Landrum. Revs. E.B. Crain, Broadus Belue and T. E. Reid conducted her funeral. Pallbearers were Willie Barnett, Lespie Barnett, Ralph Henson, Billy West, Richard West and Thomas West. There was an unusuallylarge honorary escort, including County Superviser John P. Ashemore, State Representatives Rex L. Carter amd Frank Eppes, together with Shade Crain and Quain Bruce.2

OBITUARY FOR SUSAN LEE BARNETT WEST
After a long illness, Sue died at her home at age 80 on September 25, 1957. Funeral services were conducted at Gowansville by Revs. E. B. Crain, Broadus Belue and T. E. Reid. Pallbearers were Willie Barnett, Lespie Barnett, Ralph Henson, Billy West, Richard West and Thomas West. She was thereafter buried in the church cemetery. She was survived by her husband (Charlie), four daughters (Bertha, of Joanna; Lillian, of Route 2, Greer; Myrtle, Route 5, Hendersonville; and Nell, of Route 2, Landrum), two sons (Thomas and Spurgeon, of Route 2, Landrum), two sisters (Mattie and Hattie, of Route 2, Landrum), thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. There was an unusually large honorary escort, including County Supervisor John P. Ashemore, State Representatives Rex L. Carter and Frank Eppes, together with Shade Crain and Quain Bruce. After his retirement, Charlie lived at Route 2, Landrum, in the Gowansville community. He and Vena moved from the house above (north of) Gowansville Church to another house below (south) of Gowansville. It is believed that the specific place of residence is no longer standing, but it was approximately where the house bearing the present address of 5351 N. Highway 14 presently stands.

OBITURARY FOR CHARLIE S. WEST
After a serious illness of two months, Charlie died, at age 85, at home, on November 14, 1961. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. Hollis Lovelace, Broadus Belue, E. B. Crain and W. L. Freeman, at Gowansville. Pallbearers were Bill Walker, Carl Walker, Charlie West, Jack Lee West, Joe West and Jerry Few. He was buried in the church cemetery. He was survived by his wife (Vena), four daughters (Bertha West Barnett, of Cross Hill; Lillian West Few, of Greer; Nelle West Dillard, of Landrum; and Myrtle West Walker, of Hendersonville), two sons (Thomas D., of Landrum, and R. Spurgeon, also of Landrum), and the three step-daughters mentioned above.2
