OBITUARY FOR HARRIETT VERA TURNER CARRUTH


LANDRLIM--Mrs. Harriett Turner Carruth, 74, widow of Elford Can-uth of Route 2, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday in St. Lukds Hospital in Tryon, N.C. after several months of declining health and four days of serious illness.

Mrs. Carruth was bom and reared in Landrum. She was a daughter of the late William & Texanna Ravan Turner. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class of which she was a teacher. She was a member of the WMS and leader in GA work.

Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Myrtle Loftis and Ws. Irene Walker of Landnun; three sons James, Leroy, and Sam all of Landnnn; one sister Ws. Wofford of Landnim; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p,,.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church by the Revs. Hollis Lovelace, Broadus Belue, and Clarence Tucker. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Grandsons serving as pallbearers are Charles and Carroll Loffis; Bobby, Donnie, and Sidney Walker; Ken, Sam Earle, Jerry, and Ricky Carnith. Members of the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class of the Church will form an honorary escort.

It is with great sorrow, but humble submission to the infinite wisdom of God, that we pay a tribute of love and respect to the memory of Mrs. Harriett Turner Carnith, whom God called home April 15, 1964.

She had been a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Landnun, S.C., for over 50 years, even attending Sunday School and morning worship service the last Sunday Of her life on earth. She was always ready to serve to the best of her ability as long as her health permitted. She was a faiffiffil and devoted Sunday School worker, serving as teacher many times. Also she served in many places in the WMS and the past few years devoted much time and interest to the GA!s.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

We extend to her family our deepest sympathy and pray God's Blessings on each of them, that His Spirit may fill the place left vacant by her passing,

OBITUARY OF CHARLES EFFORD CARRUTH
LANDRUM--August 22, 1940--Last rites for Charles Elford Camith, 51 -year-old Spartanburg County policeman, who died unexpectedly here today at 12:30 p.m. while sitting in his automobile viill be conducted Friday the 23rd at the Fairview Baptist Church-, Landnun.

The officer had been slightly ill several days and had driven to the home of Dr. R.G. Christopher, Landnun physician, for a consultation when fatally stricken. Officer Carruth died a few minutes after suffering the sudden attack.

Mr. Caffuth, who had resided all his life in the Landrum community, had been a member of the Spartanburg County Sheriffs Department for 11 1/2 years. Prior to becoming a rural officer, he was a farmer of the community. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and the Campobello camp of the Woodmen of the World. He was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. James F. Carruth.

The officer is survived by his wife, the former Miss Harriett Turner; four sons, James, Leroy, Clyde, and Sam, of Landrum; two daughters Mrs. Myrfle Loftis of Campobello and Miss Irene Carrath of Landnun; one brother Claude; four sisters Mrs. C.C. (Man-de) Settle, Mrs. A.B. (Alice) Turner, Mr. O.T. (Nellie) Bradey of Landnun, and Mrs. Arthur (Josie) West of Campobello.

The Revs.. T.E. Reid, Frank Snyder, and J.T. Gillespie will officiate at the fimeral, with burial in the Fairview Baptist Church cemetery.

The following nephews will be acfive pallbearers: Homer Bradey, Fred West, John L. Settle, C.Y. Carruth, Jr.,, Boyd and George Turner.

Sheriff Sam Henry, rural policemen, and the following vall comprise the honorary escort; M.P. Barnett T.S. Ford, Henry Orr, Circuit Solicitor Sam R. Watt, and County Solicitor J. Allen Lambright.
