James M. Odam was a member of the South Carolina State Reserves and the Spartanbury Rangers a Confederate Calvalry outfit composed alomost entirely of boys 17 years of Age. They were called out in 1864. He is listed in the Henderson Co. NC Census 311A-13-Mills River Twp 65-65 and 1880 Henderson Co. NC Census Hendersonville Twp 278 (p37). He was killed bya a train near Hillgirt, NC.
