John Barnett (son of Joseph) born 15 October 1766 in Gouchland County, Virginia and died 20 July 1847 in Giles County, Tennessee. He married Nancy Ann (Barnett) Barnett on 29 January 1789. Nancy was born 26 January 1767 in Granville County, North Carolina and died 18 November 1840 in Giles County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Croshaw (Graves) Barnett and appears to be a first cousin to her husband John. Records show that they lived in Spartanburg County, South Carolina before moving to Giles County, Tennessee and purchasing land from Aaron Brown in 1814.
